When I moved to the northeast 12 years ago, I knew that I wanted to someday build the most energy efficient house possible. I liked the idea of underground homes, but their exteriors always looked too modern and seemed to clash with the landscape. Being a lifelong JRR Tolkien fan, I dreamed of building a hobbit hole, which I’ve finally done. The house is completely off grid using solar power, propane and wood for energy and heating. I’ve started this blog to share my experiences to both inspire others and hopefully help them avoid many of the costly mistakes I have made.
